Changing Air Filter

Let the engine breath!  Part I.  ◆◇◇◇  Easy

Air filter is probably one of the most neglected components that needs replacing.  Most shops do check air filters for you these days but from my experience, some will even remove it for you and leave it out for good.

Since then I learned to do my own maintenance as many of the maintenance jobs are just too easy it should feel guilty paying someone to do it.  Besides, you don't have to worry whether it is done right or not, if you do it yourself!

In this part the series, "Let the engine breath," you will find how to replace your air filter.  On the next part of the series, I will teach you how to clean your intake manifold.

Symptom It Fixed

Possible fix for bad mileage, restoring lost power and better throttle response.

Required Supplies & Tools

Replacement Air Filter (Parts available at any major part store, $25 less)

Job Hours

10 minutes or less

Procedure

1.  First locate the Air Box, shown left.

2. Remove the tabs holding the top lid of the air box.

3. Move the lid of the air filter box enough so you can pull the old air filter.

New vs. Old, now that is the back side of the filter!

4. Check for the any foreign objects on the bottom of the filter box and remove them.

5. Install the new filter.

6. Place the lid square around the bottom half of the air filter box.

7. Remount the tabs around the top half.  You are done!
