I use the NAPA GOLD 1515 made by WIX in my TJ. It screws right on with plenty of room to spare. Twice the inside filter surface area and capacity over the stock filter. That is the reason I chose it.

It also adds almost a half a quart of capacity to the engine up to almost seven quarts and still in the safe area on the dipstick. I know a half a quart is not much but I think every bit helps.

That's the same filter I use (well almost) for the same reasons. I get the NASCAR version of the NAPA Gold 1515.

I have used the K&N when I can find it. When I can't find it, I use a Mobil 1 filter.

I never have been big on Amsoil products. Every 'independent' review of Amsoil on the internet can be traced right back to Amsoil with a whois search.

I used a K&N filter once and never again, it does not have an anti-drain back valve and the lifter noise was horrible. I dunno about mobil1.

mobil,

why? because all the cool kids are doing it !

I used to use the cheapo filter until it failed and my oil pressure went > 80 so now I am using a better filter, according to the majority of what I read and it gives greater capacity.

the only think i worry about is the increased time required to reach pressue upon startup......

I'm running the Mobil M-301 oil filter. It is quite a bit larger than the recommended Jeep OEM filter. Thus increased capacity and greater filtration area.

I just switched to it and after my first oil change I can tell the difference, the oil is cleaner than normal. So I am using the same Mobil M-301 again, if it keeps working as well as it did I'll keep using it.

The NAPA GOLD 1515 is longer than stock too. I think the filter mentioned above and the filter I use is probably the same size.

you know, I couldn't remember the filter at the store, so I look up a Crown Vic and it references a different filter, but the Bronco does reference to m-301

Not sure why - I think th crown vics do not have as much capacity IIRC

While we are on the subject of oil & oil filters here's some info about additives.

This link apparently goes to the article that offroaders.com reprinted:

Interesting stuff...
